Learning Theory
This instruction was developed for Theories of Learning and Cognition for Instruction course.
We were required to design an educational activity using a learning theory of our choice. I created an Origami activity using Situated Cognition Theory. Cognitive apprenticeship is an essential concept in this theory. It is about the way learning takes place between expert and novice. In the origami activity, I acted as an expert providing help just enough for learners to progress by themselves.
I also tried to follow the ARCS model of motivation. I started the lesson by throwing paper planes to get the learners' attention. To show relevance, I presented the many uses of Origami. Did you know engineers use origami to design spacecraft, airbags, bridges? Then, we started a hands-on activity with an easy origami to build confidence. The final product of this activity generates intrinsic satisfaction.
This was an individual work.
